Acupuncture for Pain
The Western Medical Acupuncture technique uses needles inserted into specific areas of the body that may be associated with tender points also known as 'trigger points'. These are commonly located in regions of musculoskeletal pain.
Acupuncture works by increasing the body’s release of natural painkillers (endorphin and serotonin) which modifies the way pain signals are received. It also has a beneficial effect
on health with patients often reporting an improved sense of overall wellbeing after treatment.
When attending for therapy, your practitioner will assess your individual case and tailor the treatment to suit you. Fine needles are inserted into the skin often with electrical stimulation. Acupuncture may be once a week to begin with, then at longer intervals for maintenance as the condition responds. A typical course of treatment consists of four to eight sessions.
